Type: Raw Pu-erh Tea (unfermented)
Production area: Menghai, Xishuangbanna Prefecture, Yunnan Province

Taste characteristics:
The allure of an aged pu-erh is that it is transportive. It is like an oldies song or an old photo that reminds you of time and place almost forgotten. It invokes feeling of nostalgia and contemplation. This Old Hong Kong aged pu-erh does exactly that. During the last century, before ripe pu-erh was created, pu-erh lovers in Hong Kong, enjoyed pu-erh tea that had been warehoused in humid basements along Victoria harbor, a storage that caused the tea to transform from a grassy and vegetal taste to an amber and mellow brew in a matter of a few years. Brewed to a burgundy hue, this tea is velvety smooth and mellow, yet not lacking a rich mouth-feel and sweet finish.

More Elixir Than Tea 12/24/2021
By Chris Barron
There’s something mysterious and special going on with this brew. The leaves themselves are not very fragrant and the rinse does not release a big aroma. To tell the truth, I was a little disappointed with the first few sips but somehow intrigued as well. The mouth feel is very nice but somehow I expected a flavor that was less subtle and more complex and bigger.

Then you smile. There is a sort of built up joy in this tea that isn’t about a strong flavor.

Subsequent infusions are sweeter and I want to say, gladder, as weird as that sounds. This tea goes to the soul as much as the mouth. There is an uplifting, heart cleansing, life force that sits behind the flavor of this tea liquor that I’ve never felt before.

Upon the seventh, three minute infusion, a beautiful, broad, pear-sweet minerality emerges and in my heart I’m back in Hong Kong wandering uphill on the little streets off of Queen’s Road East in Wan Chai among the vendors and their stands.

There’s a lot of l

Our responseI am traveling back to HK with you. This type of aged pu-erh transports me back in time and it is wonderful!!!

History in a tea cup 09/21/2021
By Sara K.
This tastes like a ripe pu'er yet isn't. So this is what the ripe pu'er process imitates. This has a lingering earthy finish. If all you want is a physically flavorful tea, I'd recommend purchasing some of the excellent ripe pu'ers which Bana sells at a lower price. However, drinking tea is more than physical sensations. We also drink tea to connect us to culture and to other people, both in the present and past. Even if the physical flavor is the same, the story behind the tea increases the sipping pleasure.
Our responseSo well said! Thank you.

Well Aged Raw Tea 02/20/2022
By Richard L Wong
This "Old Hong Kong Raw Pu-Erh Tea" is a well aged raw pu-erh tea. Its taste and smell much like a ripe pu-erh. Overall, I would say it does not have strong aroma, but a nice thick mouth-feel. It has a lower price point is about $3 per gram and lower than the "1975 Camphor Scent Aged Raw Pu-erh". It is a nice aged tea, but probably not quite as interesting as the 1975 tea but it is better value. Since it is such a well aged tea, it is worth tasting for any Raw or Ripe pu-erh tea lover.
Our responseThank you, Richard, for your insightful review of the Old Hong Kong aged pu-erh

My First Yiwu Tea 09/28/2021
By Sara K.
I'd never tried an Yiwu pu'er tea before, but after reading so much about it I was curious, and this is the cheapest-per-gram sold by Bana. Yep, it has a plummy flavor unlike other teas I've tried. It's amazing the range of flavors which can come from a single plant species. I'm glad that I finally got to experience what the fuss over Yiwu tea is about.
Our responseThis review probably should be assigned to a different tea. At any way, we are glad you get to know Yiwu tea and enjoyed it.
